15 of the Best Last-Minute Wedding Guest Dresses, From $22 to $249

Who doesn’t love a good wedding? For one magical evening, you get to watch your loved ones celebrate a major milestone in their lives at a beautiful venue, pop some bubbly and dance the night away. It’s also the perfect excuse to get all dolled up for a night to remember. If you’re stuck with a closet full of nothing to wear and the date is fast approaching, however, your stress meter can quickly shoot off the charts. Luckily, there are a lot of convenient, comfortable and timely options out there for last-minute wedding guest dresses that won’t disappoint—and we’ve tracked down 15 of the most stunning.

Where to Buy a Wedding Guest Dress

If the clock is ticking for you to get your dress in time for the special event, you can never go wrong with Amazon, which Prime members can rely on to get what they need at lighting speed (we’re talking two-day shipping or less for some items). Nordstrom also has a two-day shipping option for $12 (free for cardmembers in select cities), as does Zara ($9.95 for overnight delivery) and Revolve (it’s free for two-day shipping!), to name a few of our faves.

How to Dress for a Wedding

There’s an art to dressing for a wedding. After all, you’re not going to a bar, a club, or a museum: You’re going to someone else’s special formal event. Therefore, a certain level of etiquette is expected. To make sure your attire is appropriate, you should always adhere to the dress code on the invitation and avoid anything too short or sexy, opulent or attention-grabbing. Overall, you want to be able to make a statement without taking attention away from the bride (more on that here).

While wearing white is an obvious no-no, wedding planner Ani Wolff from New York City-based Ani Wolff Weddings says that any white detailing should be avoided as well. “For example, if you have a mainly blue dress with white flowers, maybe leave that one at home … just because we want to be as respectful as we can,” she explains to PureWow.

Black, on the other hand, which has controversial roots for older generations as a symbol of mourning, malevolence and bad luck, sees wedding experts disagreeing with it being a supposed faux pas in 2022. “Black is always formal and black is always appropriate,” Ohio-based Engaged With Nora owner and creative director, Nora Culley, tells PureWow. “I have some couples who are requesting that all of their guests wear black to their wedding. … Black is always a good color.”

Apart from color, it’s a good idea to take the setting into consideration when choosing your ensemble. If you’re headed to a beach wedding, for instance, you might want to leave the stilettos at home and opt for something more breathable—though that doesn’t mean you should go so casual you show up in shorts. “It’s always better to be overdressed than under-dressed at a wedding,” wedding planner Michelle Elaine of New York City’s Michelle Elaine Weddings tells PureWow.

If you’re still biting your nails over what to wear, it can’t hurt to simply ask the bride and groom what type of attire they’d like to see at their wedding. “The couple will appreciate that people are actually dressed how they’re expecting,” Elaine says.

Take a look at some of our editor-approved options below.

4. Woosea Mermaid Dress

Best Long Wedding Guest Dress

  • Why We Love It: Mermaid vibes, longer silhouette

We chose this eye-popping magenta number because it’s the perfect combination of class and comfort. Its floor length will cut an especially flattering figure for taller ladies, and it’s made from a polyester/spandex blend that allows for some breathing room (so there’ll be no need to say no to that second serving of pecan-crusted trout). It also comes with an airy side slit and ruffles that cuten it up a bit.

5. Xxxiticat Satin Dress

Best Midi Wedding Guest Dress

Best Short Wedding Guest Dress

  • Why We Love It: Unique, lightweight, fully lined

Wedding-tested by Assigning Commerce Editor Nicole Briese, this fun garment is quirky-yet-classy. Its halter neck and open back made it extra breezy (Nicole stayed nice and cool, even when everyone else in the room was heating up), and it draped in a way that didn’t emphasize her midsection, the way a lot of satiny fabrics do. In short (pun intended)? It’s perfect.

7. Alex Evenings Ruched Dress

Best Ruched Wedding Guest Dress

With a higher V-neckline, a streamlined silhouette that mimics a wrap dress and a modest length that stops right above the knee, we’re keen on this chic cocktail style because it has a cross-generational appeal that will work just as well on a woman who’s over 50 set as it will for someone in their 20’s. It also has a bit of compression in the fabric, so you can let your hair down and skip the Skims.

8. Atnlewhi A-line Dress

Best Lace Wedding Guest Dress

  • Why We Love It: Not itchy, flattering A-Line silhouette

Another added bonus? The adjustable straps that help to ensure the perfect fit. You can choose from seven different colors to best suit the ambience of the nuptials you’re attending—or even just your fancy.

Katherine Gillen

Maybe no one at your cookout can agree on hot dogs versus burgers, or blueberry versus cherry pie. But we can all agree on this: Ranch dressing is delicious, and it deserves a spot on the table. Short of plopping a bottle of store-bought next to the carrot sticks, how can you sneak it in the menu? With this recipe for ranch potato salad, of course.

208 calories

13g fat

21g carbs

3g protein

1g sugars

2 pounds baby Yukon gold potatoes, scrubbed

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

½ cup mayonnaise

¼ cup sour cream

2 tablespoons buttermilk

1 tablespoon white vinegar

2 tablespoons minced parsley

2 tablespoons minced dill

2 tablespoons minced chives

1 tablespoon minced cilantro

⅛ teaspoon garlic powder

½ cup diced celery

1. In a large pot, cover the potatoes with water and season generously with salt. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, 10 to 12 minutes. Drain and cool.

2. While the potatoes are boiling, make the dressing. In a large bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, vinegar, parsley, dill, chives, cilantro, garlic powder, ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon pepper.

3. When the potatoes are cool enough to handle, cut them into halves (or quarters if large). Transfer to the bowl of dressing, add the celery and stir to combine. Taste and adjust the seasoning as desired. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Royal News Roundup: Baby Lilibet Meets Her Grandfather, Sarah Ferguson Reveals a Special Family Nickname & More

Here’s all the royal news you need to know for the week of June 30, 2022.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

  • This week, we learned that Prince Charles secretly met with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during the Platinum Jubilee, and he finally got to meet his granddaughter, Lilibet, for the first time. According to People, it was an “emotional” moment for the heir to the throne.
  • The Prince of Wales has a special daily ritual with his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. Thanks to a new interview with British Vogue, the Duchess of Cornwall revealed that she and Prince Charles “always sit down together and have a cup of tea and discuss the day.”
  • Amongst the many royal reveals of the week, former royal chef Darren McGrady let loose that Queen Elizabeth’s favorite meal of the day is her afternoon tea, which she pairs with various sweet treats, ranging from mini chocolate eclairs to slices of cake.
  • Sarah Ferguson stopped by the Iain Dale’s Book Club podcast, where she disclosed the nickname she uses for herself and her daughters: The Tripod. Ferguson said that she and her daughters came up with the clever term together.
  • Hello! magazine recently revisited a card that Princess Charlotte wrote to her late grandma, Princess Diana, because it revealed the subtle nickname she uses for Prince William: “Papa.”
<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

  • It was a fashion-filled week for the royals, especially Kate Middleton, who stunned us with the powder blue duster blazer that she wore while visiting the unveiling of her and Prince William’s first joint portrait. The blazer was layered over a LK Bennett Madison dress and paired with Emmy London heels.
  • Then, Middleton completely switched up her look in a throwback photo posted to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Instagram (seen above), where she donned head-to-toe military gear.
  • Princess Beatrice stole the show at The Alchemist’s Feast in a sequin-covered gown with a plunging neckline and large bell sleeves. She cinched the gown with a black belt, which matched perfectly with the headband on top of her wavy hairstyle.
  • Royally Obsessed podcast host Rachel Bowie also tracked down the “Carolena” dress from Reformation (in Pompadour), which Princess Beatrice wore to the Chelsea Flower Show in May. (Oh, and it’s still in stock if you want to buy one for yourself.)
  • For all of June, Queen Elizabeth has been rocking one of her favorite prints: florals. So, we rounded up five times the queen sported the fashion style during one of her public events (and looked fabulous, of course).
<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

  • Queen Elizabeth made her first public appearance since the Platinum Jubilee, when she traveled to Scotland for the Ceremony of the Keys on Monday, June 27. Her Royal Majesty was all smiles as she was joined by her youngest son, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
  • The queen also released a rare public statement to celebrate the unveiling of the National Windrush Monument at Waterloo Station in London, and she signed it “Elizabeth R.”
  • While celebrating Windrush Day (which marks Caribbean immigrants arriving in the U.K. in 1948), Middleton decided to embark on one of her favorite hobbies: getting behind the camera. As she interacted with a group of young British-Caribbean artists at Brixton House, the royal picked up a video camera and started filming their surroundings.
  • We also learned that Prince George shares an interest in environmental protection with his father, Prince William. Charlie Mayhew, who is the chief executive of the non-profit, Tuft, revealed that the young royal led a fundraiser early on in the pandemic in an effort to help protect the wildlife in Africa.
  • The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in full-on parenting mode during a recent trip to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) in Cambridgeshire, where they knelt down to talk with kids, took part in finger painting and more.

This Superhero Series Has Quickly Become the #1 Most-Watched Show on Netflix

A week has gone by since The Umbrella Academy season three debuted on Netflix, and it’s already topping the streamer’s top ten list.

It’s been almost two years since the second season came out, and now that the new installment is finally here, it’s already exceeding expectations. In fact, the show recently claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched shows.

Based on the comic book by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy follows a group of superhero siblings who reunite to solve the mystery surrounding their father’s death and stop the world apocalypse.

The third season starts with the team successfully stopping the end of the world—or so they thought. The Umbrellas soon find themselves at the hands of a new foe: the Sparrow Academy. As they face challenges, losses and surprises of their own, the superheroes must stop a destructive entity that could destroy the entire universe.

Though audiences were introduced to new faces this season, longtime fans got a chance to say hello to a new character: Viktor Hargreeves. Some may recall actor Elliot Page introduced everyone to his new character on social media back in March.

His former character, previously known as Vanya Hargreeves, came out as transgender and changed his name to Viktor. The plot line originated after Page came out as transgender and nonbinary in December 2020.

“I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive,” he wrote on Instagram. “To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.”

The Umbrella Academy season three is now streaming on Netflix.

The 4 Products Ryan Gosling Uses to Get His Ken Doll Tan in ‘Barbie’

We’ve all seen it: Ryan Gosling looks fine as hell in the new “Barbie” promos, from his glistening six pack to the illuminating tan we all want to achieve. Sunless tanning expert and educator Kimberly Nkosi has revealed her secret formula of products that gave our Ken his glow, and all of them are *very* affordable (ahem, less than $33).

Barbie isn’t hitting theaters until July 2023 but early leaked images are helping it build serious buzz. Ryan Gosling, who portrays Ken in the film and his co-lead Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie (and is producing the movie), both boast sun-kissed complexions. There is one photo of Mr. Gosling we all can’t seem to get past (hello, abs). It turns out that glow all comes down to four essentials.

IMBD/Heyday Films/LuckyChap Entertainment/Mattel Films

You may have one or two of these products in your beauty arsenal, like the internet-beloved Isle of Paradise Prep It Self-Tan Priming Spray ($24) and Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Water ($32). The primer is used to adjust your skin’s pH levels, resulting in a longer-lasting faux tan. As for the Self-Tanning Water, Nkosi relied on blending two shades to achieve Ken doll status. “ALWAYS in medium, with a touch of dark to balance his undertone,” Nkosi shares in an Instagram about working with Gosling. (The Self-Tanning Water is available in three shades depending how dark you want your tan.)

As for that illuminating sheen that’s highlighting those abs, you can thank Glossier’s Balm Dot Com ($12) in Mango and the Dr. Hauschka Lemon Lemongrass Vitalizing Body Oil ($29) for that. Most of us mere mortals use The Balm Dot Com as lip balm or a hand salve, but Nkosi used it all over, likely because of the thick, petroleum-like consistency, which keeps skin hydrated and reflects light well. The Vitalizing Body Oil would add a top layer of glisten for that final touch.

As we head into summer, we’ll definitely be grabbing this quartet to illuminate our tan and emulate the beautiful Ryan Gosling every time we hit the pool.

Kelly Ripa’s Personal Trainer Reveals the One Workout Tip the ‘Live’ Co-Host Swears By

When Kelly Ripa isn’t filming on the Live set, we know that the 51-year-old star loves to spend a good portion of her free time working out, whether that’s doing yoga, learning new dances or hitting the gym. And thanks to a new post from Ripa’s longtime personal trainer, Anna Kaiser, we now know one major secret to the star’s workout routine: consistency.

In a new post on Instagram, Kaiser shared details about Ripa’s workout routine, saying, “12 years, 2 kids, 5 studios, and over 100+ dances later… we are still bringing the [heat]. Kelly trains with me and my @annakaiserstudios team 4-5 days a week and she still NEVER CANCELS!!!”

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

Kaiser explained that this regularity is the key to Ripa’s success, saying, “Listen, if I can share one secret with you, that is IT. Show up for you. Show up for your trainer. Show up because you both deserve to make the magic happen together. And that is exactly what you are, @kellyripa. MAGIC. And the strongest damn woman I have ever known!!!!! Thank you for sharing your spirit and energy with us every day.”

The post not only featured this glowing caption, but it also included a video compilation of Ripa’s many visits to the Anna Kaiser Studios in New York, and in the clip, we see the Live host doing everything from stretching and weight training to busting out a few moves.

Ripa took to the comments to thank all her trainers, writing, “You and @a.brittany_ and @blaire_bneedham are the reason I’m still standing,” along with a series of heart emojis.

In a recent interview with Shape, Kaiser revealed how Ripa’s workouts have changed over the years. “When she was in her late 30s and 40s, we really focused on cardio,” she said. “[Kelly] was doing a lot of [fitness] challenges for the show…and her stamina and cardio needed to be really strong.”

But now, there’s a different focus when it comes to Ripa’s routines, which includes “building strength, energy, and endorphins.” Kaiser said, “We are watching her heart-rate monitor and tracking her metrics on her on a daily basis to make sure she gets exactly the amount of strength and cardio for what she needs today, which is very different from what it was 12 years ago.”

We will definitely be following this Kelly Ripa-certified tip.

Prince Charles Reveals He Met Granddaughter Lilibet During Platinum Jubilee—and It Was ‘Emotional’

Did they or didn’t they? That was the question on the mind of royal watchers throughout the Platinum Jubilee weekend when it came to whether or not Prince Charles finally had the chance to meet his granddaughter Lilibet Diana during his son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle’s return trip to the U.K.

<code><p class = "instagram-media"></p></code>

This week, it was confirmed: Not only did they meet, but the visit with both Lilibet, who celebrated her first birthday that same weekend, and Archie, now 3, was “emotional” for the heir to the throne, according to a royal source who spoke to People.

Per the source, Charles had a fantastic visit with his grandson and while meeting his granddaughter for the first time. They added that it was “wonderful” to have Prince Harry and Markle back in the U.K.

Of course, this reunion comes on the heels of Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah, which has caused a great deal of friction for the royal family over the past year. In addition, Prince Charles is currently dealing with a scandal of his own tied to cash donations he accepted for his charity, which my co-host Roberta Fiorito and I discuss in detail on this week’s episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast.

But this revelation ends the guessing game—in particular the speculation that Charles and the Sussexes secretly gathered during the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

A sign of fences being mended? Perhaps. No matter what, it’s lovely to hear they found time to meet up.

For more about the royals, listen to the Royally Obsessed podcast with co-hosts Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito. Subscribe now or follow us on Instagram @royallyobsessedpodcast.

‘Mare of Easttown’ Star Kate Winslet Is Returning to HBO for a Brand-New Limited Series

Kate Winslet is coming back to the small screen in an HBO series. But before you get your hopes up, you should know that she’s not returning to play detective Mare Sheehan in the hit drama series, Mare of Easttown.

According to Variety, the Emmy-award-winning actress is set to star in a limited HBO series based on the Hernan Diaz novel, Trust. While she’s already confirmed to star in the show, Winslet will also be the executive producer.

The HBO series centers around a wealthy financier who reads a book about himself and becomes outraged by how he and his wife are depicted in the story. His solution? He confides in a secretary to ghostwrite a memoir and tell everyone the truth. But, his wife soon discovers that he’s trying to rewrite history, including her own past.

Winslet most recently starred in the breakout series, Mare of Easttown. The story follows Mare Sheehan (Winslet), a detective who works in a small town in Pennslyvania. As a grisly murder shakes the town, Mare races against time to find the true culprit, while also trying to keep her life from falling apart.

At the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, she took home the statuette for Best Actress in a Limited Series award for her outstanding performance. Her fellow castmate, Evan Peters, won his first-ever Emmy Award for his role as Detective Colin Zabel in the series.

Honestly, you had us at Winslet.

Monday: Blt Pasta Salad

Forget the gloppy, store-bought macaroni salads of your past. This 40-minute, sandwich-inspired version is equal parts crunchy, creamy and savory, with a little less mayo but just as satisfying as the standard.

Tuesday: Crispy Grilled Chicken

Can you believe those expert char marks are only 30 minutes away? Transform basic chicken breasts into something spectacular with nothing but mayonnaise and a flurry of dry spices and fresh herbs. (And don’t forget the corn on the cob.)

Wednesday: Rainbow Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta

This last-minute appetizer doubles as a lightning-fast dinner if you pair it with a green salad or cold soup, or top the bruschetta with prosciutto or salami for a protein boost.

Thursday: Rodney Scott’s Honey-butter Fish

Salty, savory rib rub meets sweet, luscious honey butter. Take it from the pitmaster: Using open foil slings to cook the fish allows it to soak up as much smoky flavor as possible, much more than when it’s simply popped on the grill.

Friday: Corn Fritter Caprese With Peaches And Tomatoes

Brace yourself for a chorus of oohs and ahhs when you place this beauty on the picnic table. It has all the essentials of a caprese salad, plus tender, crispy corn fritters and juicy summer peaches. Consider crowning it with berries, prosciutto, olive oil and flaky salt before serving.

Saturday: Greek Turkey Burgers With Tzatziki Sauce

No barbecue is complete without burgers, but why limit yourself to ground beef? Turkey is a lighter, leaner option, so it’ll keep your guests from getting too full before dessert. (On that note, we’ll just leave our recipe for mini mason jar apple pies right here…)

Sunday: Grilled Flank Steak With Lemon-herb Sauce

Sure, grilled steak is impressive, satiating and oh-so-seasonal. But our favorite thing about this recipe is the one-hour marinating time, which we like to think of as a built-in cocktail hour for the chef.
