You Have to See Matt Lauer Dressed Up as Dolly Parton (Plus the Rest of the ‘Today’ Show Costumes)

Spice Girls, Run DMC, Stranger Things: Some group costumes will always get a thumbs-up in our book. But this year, the Today show cast took Halloween #SquadGoals to the next level. We mean, just scroll through these and try to tell us otherwise…

@Todayshow/Twitter

Exhibit A: Matt Lauer as the queen of country, Dolly Parton, and Savannah Guthrie as Kenny Rogers. The two performed an “Islands in the Stream” duet together and…We. Lost. It. (P.S.: Who knew Lauer could pull off a blond bouffant like a true pageant girl? Oh, wait… He’s worn that wig almost every year.)

@Todayshow/Twitter

@Todayshow/Twitter

Next up: Al Roker as Willie Nelson. Right on, Al.

@Todayshow/Twitter

@Todayshow/Twitter

Here’s Hoda Kotb as Blake Shelton, and we’re not really sure which one is the real Blake Shelton. (Also, we’re starting to sense a theme here…)

@Todayshow/Twitter

@Todayshow/Twitter

And last but not certainly not least of the country music legends, Carson Daly and Kathie Lee Gifford as Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus, and Megyn Kelly as Shania Twain (corset, top hat and all). To which we say: Can we borrow that jacket in real life, Kathie?

‘Stranger Things’ Cast Members Ease on Down the Road for Halloween

While we plebeians scoured Halloween stores for blond wigs, pink dresses and Eggo props, Stranger Things costars Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers) and Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler) called on Auntie Em for some costume inspo.

Over the weekend, Heaton took to Instagram to share a photo of himself, Dyer and two friends posing as The Wizard of Oz’s famous foursome: Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man. Heaton captioned the post, “Happy Halloween guys!!”

Dyer played the role of the Cowardly Lion, while Heaton opted for the flammable Scarecrow.

And the Steve, once again, stands alone.

Jennifer Lawrence Is Interviewing Kim Kardashian on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

When your job is being one of the funniest people on TV, finding someone to fill in for you is no easy task. Not so for TV host Jimmy Kimmel, who has enlisted a crew of celebrity stars to cover for him while he’s away for a week. And his fill-ins are good.

Kimmel’s son William was meant to have heart surgery this week (good luck, Billy!) but instead, the whole Kimmel family is home sick with colds. While the ABC late-night host is taking a brief hiatus from Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he has arranged for an all-star lineup to fill in for him, including Shaquille O’Neal (who hosted last night), Dave Grohl (tune in tonight), Channing Tatum and goddess Jennifer Lawrence.

And who will the Oscar-winning actress be interviewing? Oh, um, reality star Kim Kardashian. (OK, wait, what the heck are they going to talk about?) We love you, Jimmy, but we’re pretty excited for this week’s lineup.

“As a precautionary measure, the scheduled second heart surgery for Jimmy Kimmel’s son Billy had to be postponed this week due to the common cold,” a show rep said earlier. “Jimmy is very grateful to Shaquille O’Neal, Dave Grohl, Channing Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence for filling his very small shoes as guest hosts this week while he, his wife and children sneeze on each other.”

But we can’t help but wonder why Jimmy didn’t call on super-host and all-around awesome person Ellen DeGeneres. Oh, wait… On Wednesday (which is Tatum’s night), DeGeneres is appearing as a guest along with a musical performance by Pink. The only thing that just might be able to top that? Lawrence hosting on Thursday, with Kim Kardashian as a guest and musical performers Linkin’ Bridge.

BRB, setting up our DVR immediately.

How to Make Your Very Own Compass (It’s Actually Super Easy)

Whether your kid is learning geography in school or has just started asking questions about how a GPS works, this fun DIY project is a great way to get some educational bonding time in.

What You Need:
– Cork
– Marker
– Needle
– Magnet
– Pliers
– A bowl filled with water

Step 1: Use a knife to cut a ½ inch-wide piece off the bottom of the cork.

Step 2: Mark the four directions with a marker on one of the cork’s flat sides, then set aside.

Step 3: Rub the pointed end of the needle onto a magnet. This transfers the magnetism onto the needle so it will point north.

Step 4: Poke the needle through the cork so that it runs from south to north with the pointed end sticking out of the northern end. You may need pliers to help get the needle through.

Step 5: Gently place the cork compass into a bowl of water and watch as it finds and stays pointing due north.

How to Wear Purple Highlighter (the Surprisingly Subtle Next Big Thing in Beauty)

Yes, really. Purple highlighter is the buzz of the beauty world. But it’s not a flash-in-the-pan fad; it’s actually quite flattering on most skin tones and much more subdued than you might think. After talking to our friend Jenny Patinkin (a makeup artist and author of Lazy Perfection: The Art of Looking Great Without Really Trying), we decided to give it a whirl ourselves—now we’re completely obsessed. Here’s how to pull off the hue as an adult.

1. Find the right shade. For lighter complexions, pale purples that have a hint of pink to them work best, while those with medium to darker skin can opt for richer, more pigmented purples. Patinkin says anything that’s too light can appear chalky on deeper skin.

2. Use it like a color corrector. Purple balances out sallow gray or yellow tones in the skin and adds instant brightness wherever it’s applied. Two places to start: on top of your cheekbones and around the tear ducts, which will really pop the whites of the eyes. You can also add some to the center of your eyelids for a subtle flash of radiance, Patinkin advises.

3. Keep everything else warm. When wearing a cool shade like lavender, it’s best to balance out the rest of your look (i.e., your lips) with warmer colors like peach or coral.
