I Don’t Trust the Therapist in ‘Big Little Lies’ & Here’s Why

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

While I could easily go on and on about tonight’s episode of Big Little Lies and how Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) is trying to secure custody of Celeste’s (Nicole Kidman) two children, I can’t stop thinking about the therapist, Dr. Amanda Reisman (Robin Weigert), who isn’t convincing me that she can be trusted.

Here’s what you need to know: On season two, episode four of BLL, Mary Louise seeks out a family law attorney after deeming her daughter-in-law, Celeste, a bad mother to her grandchildren, Max (Nicholas Crovetti) and Josh (Cameron Crovetti).

After receiving the custody papers from Mary Louise, Celeste confides in Dr. Reisman. Sure, the therapist promises that she can’t discuss anything in court, since she’s bound by a doctor-patient confidentiality agreement. However, I’m highly skeptical of the recurring character.

In season one of the HBO series, I was a huge fan of Dr. Reisman. However, season two is introducing an all-new side to her. While I can’t exactly read her expressions, she’s acting far more skeptical than usual, talking extremely slowly and taking long pauses before responding. Although my first thought was that she’s secretly judging her clients, I don’t think it’s so simple.

In fact, I think she has a hidden agenda. First, I must ask: Is Mary Louise feeding Dr. Reisman false information? While the therapist appears loyal to Celeste, we wouldn’t put it past Mary Louise to press the doctor for answers. And if it came to the well-being of her client, we wouldn’t be surprised if Dr. Reisman caves and takes Mary Louise’s side.

Or is Dr. Reisman hiding something much bigger, like a former extramarital affair with the late Perry (Alexander Skarsgård)? Yes, it’s a bit farfetched. But based on Perry’s track record, it’s not impossible.

Unfortunately, we won’t know the character’s true colors until the forthcoming episodes. But one thing’s for sure: From the Ambien car crashes to the sleepovers with strange men, Dr. Reisman knows way too much about Celeste.

Big Little Lies returns to HBO next Sunday, July 7, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Rule of Three: Lady Gaga, Beyoncé & More Celebs Are Pushing a No-Pants Agenda

Rule of Three is a new franchise from PureWow that points out nascent trends before they’re all over your Instagram feed. Why Rule of Three? Well, it’s not a “trend” until a few (at least three) very familiar faces hop onboard.

For most of us, no shoes, no shirt and no pants equals no service. But for a select few—Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Olivia Munn and Lady Gaga, in this case—pants are apparently optional.

Yes, a startling new trend has been emerging, beginning with Grande and most recently extending to Mother Monster. Stars have opted to eschew pants in favor of bare legs for all sorts of occasions. (Walking down the street! At awards shows! While shopping!) Sure, this particular Rule of Three includes four people, but in a world where pants are becoming less and less of a thing, we just had to do our due diligence.

Let’s find out why and how this trend picked up speed and contemplate whether or not we’d ever dare to go bare-legged out in the wild. (Spoiler alert: That’s a no.)

Ariana Grande

Gotham/GC Images

Grande and lampshading have basically become synonymous. What’s lampshading you ask? It’s when one wears a large billowy top as a dress so that their legs look like lamp stands. (Hey, we didn’t make it up). An extensive scroll through Grande’s Instagram (or just Google) reveals that she’s rocked this very specific look many, many times. And while we can’t be certain when this paradigm shift occurred, the first documented no-pants outfit Grande appears to have worn was in August of 2016. However, her highly-publicized 2018 romance with ex-fiancé Pete Davidson really catapulted her no-pants lifestyle into the zeitgeist. Still, it took some time to really catch on.

Beyoncé

In April of 2019, ’twas the night of the NAACP Awards and all through the audience, people were talking about how Beyoncé left her pants at her house. Queen Bey is no stranger to forgoing pants in favor of a leotard on stage, but in her normal (super glamorous) life, she typically wears bottoms. Well, that wasn’t the case when she rocked a white Balmain open-front gown with matching leo. And, of course, once Yoncé rocks a trend, it’s off to the races.

Olivia Munn

Earlier this week, on Monday, June 24, the 38-year-old Rook actress stepped out in New York City wearing a full Thom Browne ensemble from the 2019 ready-to-wear resort collection. The only difference between the runway look and her version? She left the pants at home and reached for thigh-high boots à la Ariana.

Later that day (and in the same city!) Lady Gaga brought the trend full circle and returned to her hotel after performing at the Apollo Theater. Instead of her typical Gaga platforms and eye-catching outfit, she wore a vintage Green Day band T-shirt and black patent leather boots. (Oh, don’t forget the My Little Pony she carried.)

In summation, we get that saying no thanks to pants is comfy and all, but we think we’ll stick to our fully clothed approach to dressing. At least for the time being.

All the Clues Hinting Peter Wins ‘The Bachelorette’

While this season of The Bachelorette has pretty much revolved around Luke Parker, there’s no denying that Peter Weber is winning over Hannah Brown more and more every episode.

So, does the 27-year-old pilot have a shot at securing the final rose? Here are all the clues hinting that Peter wins season 15 of The Bachelorette.

1. Hannah Is His #1 Priority

ABC/John Fleenor

During the Luke drama in episode six, Brown addressed the remaining contestants in tears and revealed that she was nearly at her wit’s end.

Upon seeing her reaction, Peter turned to the men and said, “Honestly, guys. Can we please just cut this s***? Did you just see that? How she was? Like, this sucks.” Husband potential? Check.

2. He Made Their Relationship Official

ABC/Robert Clark

Sure, Brown is dating several other men. But that didn’t stop Peter from asking her to be his girlfriend in episode four. “I believe that being intentional, like, direct in a relationship is very important, so I wanted to, like, officially ask if you want to be my girlfriend,” he said.

3. The Feelings Are There…

ABC/John Fleenor

In episode three, Peter opened up in an interview with the producers and revealed that he’s falling in love with the Bachelorette—something not many contestants can say.

“I’m falling very hard for Hannah Kelsey Brown,” he said. “She just makes you feel so good and so comforting and just, like, inspires you to be a better person, and she’s just so sweet.”

ABC/John Fleenor

4. …and So Is The Chemistry

ABC/John Fleenor

This week’s installment confirmed that the couple’s physical chemistry isn’t lacking whatsoever. During their one-on-one date, they learned more about a Latvian spa ritual. This included getting massages and turning the sauna into their very own make-out chamber.

While chatting with producers, Brown admitted that the sexual tension is at an all-time high. “It’s just, like, so sexually driven,” she said. “Like, so hot.”

ABC/John Fleenor

5. The Audience Is On His Side

ABC/John Fleenor

After The Bachelorette premiered on ABC, Twitter immediately blew up with fangirls raving about Peter’s genuine personality.

Some users said what we’re all thinking, writing, “Peter from the bachelorette deserves the freaking world.” Others thought about Brown’s future: “I like Peter because he looks like he’s ready to go to a Parent Teacher Conference at any moment.”

The Bachelorette airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.

The Latest Edition of Jennifer Garner’s ‘Pretend Cooking Show’ Is All About…Figs

Back by popular demand…Jennifer Garner’s Pretend Cooking Show! And during her latest edition, the 47-year-old actress expressed her love and passion for figs.

OK, so this one is sans video, pictures only. But we have to say these look like Ina Garten–worthy figs, and we’re totally impressed.

“Swipe and see!” Garner captioned her Instagram post. “Well, it’s official— I could eat figs for every meal. Purple and green, sweet and savory. Practically a perfect food and easy peasy to prepare.” And not only that, she included the step-by-step recipe, so fans and fig lovers alike could try it out. See below.

Roasted Figs with Goat Cheese & Pine Nuts
1. Cut figs in half and remove the stems.
2. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar and salt.
3. Roast at 200 degrees for 2 hours.
4. Turn up the oven to 275 degrees for another 30-45 minutes, or until they look caramelized and delicious.
5. Toast some pine nuts in a dry pan.
6. Garnish the figs with the pine nuts, some goat cheese, a little more balsamic and a drizzle of honey.
7. Yum.

Seems simple enough.

In the past, we’ve seen Garner whip up chocolate chip bread, fish sticks and even warm apple oatmeal (usually with a side of witty commentary). We shouldn’t be surprised though, since Garner has long had a love for Garten (and cooking) and the two became friends several years ago.

Jen, if you’re reading this, please invite Ina over for a cooking date!

Celebeauty Sit-Down: Jennifer Aniston’s Colorist Reveals the Product That Will Give You That Rachel Shine

Celebeauty Sit Down is a new franchise from PureWow in which our editors chat with some of the biggest names in the celebrity beauty world exclusively. We uncover their tips, tricks and best-kept secrets so you can recreate your favorite A-lister’s look IRL.

It’s no secret that Jennifer Aniston’s hair is downright enviable. We’ve been lusting over her golden-hued locks since the ’90s (yes, it all started with The Rachel). And while she may have switched up her style here and there, Aniston’s sun-kissed tresses have remained vibrant as ever thanks to the work of her longtime colorist, Michael Canalé.

When PureWow sat down with Canalé exclusively to discuss the exciting new products in his eponymous hair-care collection, we had to keep from blurting out, “How do we get our hair to look as shiny as Jen’s?!” Luckily, he was happy to share the secret behind the 50-year-old Murder Mystery star’s iconic color…without an embarrassing outburst from us.

Canalé, who also works with Denise Richards and Kyra Sedgwick, said his approach to Aniston’s signature look hasn’t changed drastically since they first introduced The Rachel (paper-thin highlights and melted-together tones are key). But there’s one new facet to his process that we can all replicate: his new Cool Blue gloss, which was just released today.

The sought-after colorist explained that he used the new gloss on Aniston for her recent Harper’s Bazaar June/July cover shoot and on her forthcoming TV show with Reese Witherspoon, The Morning Show.

“We were doing the TV show and we decided to launch our new blue gloss with that. We basically highlighted her only, raw, and then we did the blue gloss over it,” Canalé explained. “And even if you look at the Bazaar [cover], you can see the sandy tone pop. Even though you’re seeing the light hit the top and you’re seeing the gold, you can [also] see the extreme shine from the new gloss—that lasts 20 shampoos.”

In addition to being long-lasting, Canalé says the Cool Blue gloss includes four applications in the bottle. And, if you use milder shampoos (Canalé suggests his $38 Cleanse shampoo), the luster will last even longer.

But shine isn’t the only perk of his new Aniston-approved gloss. It also boasts protective qualities that will definitely come in handy this summer.

“The whole line is about healthy hair. The gloss is there to protect, and it has a UV sunblock in it. It’s state of the art,” Canalé said.

To use the gloss, simply apply it to wet, freshly shampooed hair. Massage it evenly through your hair from root to tip, allow it to sit for three to five minutes, then rinse thoroughly, shampoo, condition and style as desired.

Canalé’s new signature Cool Blue gloss is currently available on his website for $47. We know what we’re doing this weekend.

Katharine McPhee & David Foster Are Married! Everything We Know About Their London Wedding

Wedding bells are in the air for Katharine McPhee and David Foster!

The couple reportedly tied the knot on Friday, June 28, according to Us Weekly. The ceremony was held at a church in London, where the bride and groom exchanged vows in front of approximately 100 friends and family.

Although we don’t know any details about Foster’s attire, the mag confirmed that the singer wore a custom gown by Zac Posen.

Dating rumors about McPhee and Foster started circulating back in May 2017 after they were spotted showing PDA at Nobu in Malibu. Although they didn’t confirm their relationship until later that year, Foster popped the question in July 2018 while they were in Anacapri, Italy.

Shortly before the couple’s secret wedding, McPhee posted a video on Instagram, where she celebrated the anniversary of her first single, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” before honoring her new husband.

“Exactly 13 years ago today my very first single, ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ was released right after Idol,” she wrote. “Today… I’m marrying the man who produced it. Life is full of beautiful coincidences, isn’t it? Thank you for taking me over the rainbow, David.”

In honor of Stranger Things season three, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park in New York is going to be fully transformed into the show’s sci-fi universe, which takes place in 1985.

From July 5 to the 7 (11 a.m. until 6 p.m.), park attendees and Stranger Things fans alike will have a chance to explore the Upside Down and enjoy treats such as Hawkins’ Scoops Ahoy ice cream. Is it too much to hope for a Steve Harrington appearance?

Attractions like Deno’s iconic Wonder Wheel, the bumper cars and the Tilt-A-Whirl will all be “Stranger-fied,” with themed surprises and quintessential elements from the series.

Not to mention there will be a Hawkins Fourth of July Spectacular Fireworks Show at 9:30 p.m. on July 5.

9 Entrepreneurial Miami Women Share Their Best Career Advice

Whether you’re looking for a new job, contemplating a career change or daydreaming about running your own start-up, it never hurts to learn from people who have been there before. We asked nine Miami women on the career advice they swear by. (Spoiler alert: Know your worth and throw pride out of the window.)

Know The ‘why’

“I think for many of us, being a successful entrepreneur means enduring the good and bad times that come with running a business—and that is something I believe comes from your ‘why.’ My journey as an entrepreneur is bigger than myself; it’s about creating a ripple effect. Find a path that you’re passionate about and that speaks to your ‘why.’ Make sure it drives you to wake up and make a positive impact every single day.”—Katie Sandler, CEO of the Impact Retreat

“Know your goals—daily, weekly, monthly, yearly. It’s all about benchmarking short-term goals in order to achieve your long-term goals. Every marathon begins with one step forward. Track your progress in a daily journal, and celebrate every lap of your journey.”—Leila Centner, founder of Centner Academy

“Celebrate the small victories. Every step in the process of your business is important. So even if it’s not a huge milestone, celebrate and recognize the small accomplishments. Stop doubting yourself, too. Just try it. If it fails, you learned from it and can readjust for the next idea.”—Juliana Cardona, founder of Girl Gang Wrap

Embrace The Challenge (and The Chaos)

“Planning is important, but it’s equally important to recognize that plans often go awry. Be malleable, roll with the punches and let things play out. Throw pride out the window, and be willing to ask for help. And don’t forget, patience and persistence go a long way. Everyone wants immediate gratification, but that’s rarely in the cards. If you work at it, the payoff will be far greater.”—Dana Rozansky, creator of Miami Food Porn

“Remember to enjoy the entrepreneurial tornado that comes with the experience. Part of that means that when systems and processes are not in place, it’s up to you to figure out how to do it. When creating a new business, know that things are not going to be perfect right out of the gate, and that doesn’t mean you should give up.”—Madison Boehm, co-founder and COO of Jaxson Maximus

Nurture Your Connections (and Yourself)

“Don’t underestimate the power of relationships, especially when starting out in an industry. Every person you meet can lead to an opportunity. I owe a lot of the success I’ve had to mentors that took a chance on me when I first started working in real estate.”—Karen Elmir, CEO of the Elmir Group

“Never stop learning and read, read, read. Leaders read.”—Laurie Davis, executive director of the Commonwealth Institute and principal of LKD Consulting

Learn As Much As You Can

“Become an expert in your field. Learn, learn more and keep learning. Know your customers and what they want most, know your competition and what they lack. Always know your worth, too. Know what you bring to the table.”—Adrianne Calvo, chef, restaurateur and cookbook author

“Know when to capitalize on trends without losing authenticity. Weigh and evaluate trends carefully with your brand’s identity in mind, and test out in small focus groups before you execute any major marketing campaigns.”—Nicole Carner and Brooke Gettler, co-founders of Justair

Serena Williams’s 2019 Wimbledon Outfit Will Feature a Secret (and Sparkly!) Message

Serena Williams is potentially on her way to securing another Grand Slam, so it’s no surprise the 37-year-old athlete is reminding us of her excellence with a super-special outfit detail for Wimbledon 2019.

During the annual tennis tournament, Williams will wear a white dress by Nike, which will feature a sewn-on Swarovski crystal brooch—nicknamed “broosh” by Nike—embellished in the shape of the brand’s famous “swoosh” logo.

The symbol will include a total of 34 Swarovski crystals, which is no random number. In fact, the professional tennis player was 34 years old when she won her last Wimbledon title in 2016. So yeah, it’s a pretty big deal and a cute good luck charm.

According to Abby Swancutt, the global design director for NikeCourt, the brand created the look with Williams in mind. “I also wanted her to feel like it was something her grandmother could have worn, but of course give it a modern spin and make it just right for Serena,” she said in a statement.

This is the first time that Nike and Swarovski have collaborated together on a “broosh.” While we have no doubt that it will receive attention for all the right reasons, Williams is no stranger to receiving criticism about what she wears on the court.

Back in 2018, the athlete wore a chic Nike bodysuit at the French Open. After the match, Bernard Giudicelli—president of the French Tennis Federation—publicly commented on the look before banning one-piece catsuits from all future tournaments.

On the bright side, they can’t ban a “broosh,” especially if they don’t know what it is.
